Boost Sales with These 4 Email Marketing Strategies
If your emails aren’t getting opens & clicks, then you’re spending a lot of time creating something that isn’t actually doing what it’s supposed to for your business. Who has that kind of time to spare?
Rather than caulking it up to “What a waste! Email marketing doesn’t work,” I’m going to show you how relatively simple fixes can turn your ho-hum opens & clicks into true email marketing success 🙌🏻
Because the truth of the matter is that email marketing is the most time-tested digital channel for marketing your service-based business.
Social media marketing may be flashy and ads are a quick “jump to the front of the line” tactic, but on a busy day (or week or month) we may dial down our time spent on social or Google. Our inboxes, on the other hand, always get attention.
And this is true of your clientele as well. So let’s make sure any effort you spend on marketing is designed for conversions, which naturally lead to sales.
Email Marketing Benchmark Data
Before we dig in, let me first start by giving some benchmarks of what’s considered good numbers for email marketing.
Average open rates: (across all industries)
B2B – 15-25%
B2C – 17-28%
Assuming your emails are designed for clicks, either to your social media content or website, and not awareness or education, then…
Average click through rates: (across all industries)
B2B – 2.4%
B2C – 2%
Ok now that we established that, here’s what you do to increase open rates:
Tip 1: Ensure each email only has ONE goal.
The more focused the goal, the clearer you will write the copy that drives readers to follow the path you want them to take.
Too many goals for an email (i.e. “read this” “buy this” “follow us here” “leave this a review”) and analysis paralysis takes hold and guess what readers do? 👇🏻
Once that goal is decided, give them multiple opportunities throughout the email to take that desired action. Link words towards the top, middle and end of your email all leading to that same goal page.
Tip 2: Focus on making that subject line stand out in the inbox.
If the subject line doesn’t catch their attention, it won’t matter how good the content is inside. Standing out in a busy inbox is paramount.
Quick Tips:
➜ Use emojis at the beginning
➜ Insert their first name and/or a qualifier of a demo they represent
➜ Start with word/phrase in all caps and [brackets]
Tip 3: Treat each email like a conversation with your reader.
While subject lines are key, you want to avoid pulling a bait & switch by having something super catchy that’s misaligned with the email content inside.
If your subject line starts a conversation, make sure the first line or paragraph of the email continues where the subject line left off.
Example:
[Subject Line] Do you remember the last time you saw this?
Message:
And by “this” [FIRST NAME], I mean an email from a marketing agency that actually provided tactics with examples instead of just a bunch of useless jargon and “buy from me” kind of messaging.
It’s rare right?
Well lucky for you DCM is here to stand out just as much as we want YOU to stand out from your competitors.
Email marketing is how you build and nurture trust with your audience. Keep that at the forefront and you’ll notice improved opens, clicks and conversions.
To that end…
Tip 4: Provide value in every email.
If you are always saying “buy this, buy that,” then people will eventually stop opening, and drag down your open rates, OR they will unsubscribe.
No one wants to be sold everyday. What we DO want is a solution to our problems so…
Focus on providing educational, helpful content to them 80% of the time so that when you do have a sales opportunity 20% of the time, your list still opens!
Again, email is made to build trust, stay top of mind and provide VALUE so when your ideal client is ready to buy, they think of you first vs. the competition.
THAT is how you optimize your email marketing and connect it to your sales strategy. Pretty cool right?
