5 Marketing and Sales Podcasts Recommendations
It may be hard to find the time to read as much as you’d like, but that shouldn’t stop you from learning. Podcasts are all the rage and for good reason. They’re an easy way to learn something new while walking, driving, or doing other chores that take you away from a screen.
Here are five of my go-to podcasts for marketing and sales education:
Podcast 1: The Salesman Podcast
I absolutely LOVE this one. Each episode has an interview with a different successful sales person to discuss their go-to tactics, how to overcome objections, and knowing when to walk away. Each or the guests is from a different industry so it’ll require you to take a step outside your comfort zone of industry-specific advice and challenge your brain to find the larger application of the advice included.
Who It’s For:
Anyone wants to become a more well-rounded and knowledgeable salesperson.
Podcast 2: Turn Your Followers Into Clients with Vanessa Lau
I originally started listening to this in hopes of learning exactly what the title suggests. What I learned instead is that I am not alone in my thinking: followers do NOT equal success – not the financial kind at least. Lau is a successful Instagram marketer and coach who does not hold back when it comes to the real work it takes to turn thousands of followers (aka vanity metrics) into paying clients.
Who It’s For:
She is very clear that her advice is tailored to online coaches and consultants, but I think anyone who has a relatively solid social following and wants to make it profitable can gain great insight here.
At the very least you will learn what it really takes to grow a following of 10,000+ and just how much work behind the scenes will be required. Then you can better determine if that’s even what you WANT to do.
Given that many are turning to online businesses and consulting with the pandemic, there is much insight to be gained from this expert.
UPDATE: Sadly this no longer produced.
Podcast 3: The SimplyBe. Podcast
Hosted by Jessica Zweig, personal branding expert and owner of SimplyBe. Agency, this podcast includes a mix of interviews with successful business owners and a few, newly added solo episodes directly from Jessica. She offers a blend of actionable insights, real-world stories of successful entrepreneurs, and mindset coaching in episodes ranging from 20- to 60-minutes each.
The mindset part gets a little too granola and touchy-feely for me, but if I can put her love of chakras, oracle cards, spirit animals and all things crystal-esque aside, her guiding message and that of her interview subjects is really interesting.
Plus, you can easily skip over those episodes.
Who It’s For:
100% for the ladies. Gents – she’s a pretty lady but that won’t come through on the podcast. This one isn’t for you.
UPDATE: This podcast has been rebranded in early 2024. Jessica’s podcast now is The Spiritual Hustler.
Podcast 4: Show Your Business Who’s Boss
I have been a big fan of Pia Silva since I first e-met her about four years ago. A great brand strategist and coach, she has done a wonderful job of turning her personal branding expertise (and business challenges) into actionable tips for you as the listener/consumer of her content. Why make the mistakes yourself when you can learn from others who have been there and featured out a better way?
This one covers everything from branding to business strategy to product development and marketing.
Who It’s For:
Solopreneurs, small business CEOs and the “idea” folks who need direction to get from idea to profitable product/service.
Podcast 5: The Intentional Living Project
As my loyal DCM readers and clients know, I am a BIG proponent of mindset work. You cannot be successful in sales and business (or life!) unless your head is in the game. What I love about this podcast is that each episode is no more than 20 minutes long and it’s a conversation between two incredibly authentic and real gentlemen.
Creator and host Bruce Dodd, a mortgage lender with a passion for coaching men to leading more intentional and fulfilling lives, offers a very honest perspective on life and business without droning on for the sake of a longer episode. He’s real, to the point and alway sleeves me with something to think about.
Who It’s For:
While his original target audience was men looking to become better men at home and at work, I find I gain just as much insight as a woman working to do those same things. Whether a man or woman, if you have a drive to live your life a little more intentionally and be a better self for your business and family, this is worth a listen.
After all, it’s only 15-20 minutes of your day, the perfect way to enhance your walk with your dog or commute to work/grocery.
NOTE: The Intentional Living Project is a DCM client. I first met Bruce when he facilitated the mortgage on my home and we hit it off right away. After I closed, I started listening to his podcast and after I became a raving fan, he later became a client.
