What to Look Out for When Hiring An SEO Agency
If you are considering hiring an agency, or freelancer, to handle SEO for your company I implore you to watch this video first. It is quite easy for SEO agencies to use marketing jargon and buzzwords like “backlinks”, “target keywords”, “domain authority” and “first page of Google” to attract potential clients who simply don’t know what they don’t know.
The sales reps say things like, “Our team of experts will handle everything on the backend so you won’t have to worry about doing anything. We’ve got it.”
That section in bold is your first red flag. This is your business, not theirs, so I am going to implore you to take a more active role pre-engagement and during those first few weeks to ensure your company and brand values are being represented accurately. This is especially important since whomever you hire will have access to make changes to your website, the digital home of your business.
Would you give just anyone a key to the front door of your house? Clearly not. You would have to get to know them, ask lots of questions about how they intend to use that key, and set boundaries on your expectations for what they do once inside. The same is true of your business’s digital home.
In this video I walk you through:
→ Background of how SEO actually works (beyond the jargon)
→ Questions to ask each SEO agency before you hire them
→ Ways to check their work to ensure it matches your brand
→ Case study example of what can go wrong when the above steps are not taken

(NOTE: This can be listened to rather than watched if you’re on-the-go, but there are visual aids used to better illustrate a few points.)
