3 Methods for Generating New Content Ideas for Your Blog and Social Media
The marketing mantra “Content is king,” continues to ring true today, along with “Quality is Queen.” Whether you are creating content for your social media accounts or blog (and naturally I hope you are doing both!), that constant need to be creating new marketing ideas can be a struggle.
Well not anymore! Here are three methods I use to generate content ideas for my business and personal blogs.
NOTE: You can also get a custom content calendar created for you here.
1. See what others are saying and put your own spin on it
Sign up for newsletters from others in your field and your target client’s field. Listen to the podcasts your ideal client probably listens to as well. The goal here is to find out what they are saying and reading and let it get your own creative wheels turning.
I do this a lot with podcasts too. Without fail, there will be someone I wholeheartedly agree with and want to add my two cents on top of what they said, OR I’ll disagree so strongly I need to fix what I see as a misconception of information.
Either way, other people’s content in my niche can be the spark that sets my creative brain going.
2. FAQs
The fastest blog content for me comes from the most frequently asked questions my clients have. Think about the things you get asked over and over (and over) again, then either write out your reply or record a video – or both!
There are multiple benefits of this including:
→ A chance to solidify and streamline your answer
→ Creating core (or pillar) content for your blog
→ Saves you time repeating or retyping the answer when people ask.
Now when a client asks me any of these things on a call, I tell them “Oh I’ve got the perfect resource for you. I’ll send it after we’re done to cover it all.” Boom!
They get more time to ask other questions during their 1:1 sessions and I don’t find myself wasting precious time and creative energy repeating the same lessons. It’s a win-win!
3. Look at trending topics or current affairs
These days it seems all anyone can talk about is AI. Well, I’ve got thoughts on that!
Here’s how I use them:
→ It all starts with a blog article outlining my thoughts on AI and how to use it in effectively for marketing
→ The intro to that blog becomes an email to my VIP list
→ Then, I use those thoughts as a roadmap to creating a quick video
→ Finally, that video gets posted on social media with a link in comments back to the blog for even more detail.
And that is how one trending subject I am passionate about turns into four pieces of content released over the course of a week that all lead back to my website.
Use this SAME formula to ensure you get the most traction out of your content marketing as possible without having to start from scratch each week with a brand new piece of content.
Plus, talking about trending topics and current news with your specific niche-slant to it will help from a brand awareness perspective too.
