Email Marketing Stats You Need to Know for 2022
Email marketing isn’t a favorite activity of many business owners and solopreneurs. I get it. It doesn’t include music or direct interaction (and validation) the way social media does, it takes time to create, and requires one to actually write. #ew
Email Marketing Stands the Test of Time for Sales
However, email marketing is how you nurture prospects to become leads and leads to become clients. It continues to stand the test of time as the highest converting marketing channel despite the advent (read: saturation) of social media in our lives.
While people can purchase a product from an Instagram link, they are not spending thousands, or even hundreds, of dollars via Instagram. To make multi-figure purchases, they want to get to know who they are buying from and WHY that person/company is the one for them.
Outside of stalking each person interested in your company’s services or products and forcing them to talk to you, which quite frankly is creepy and sounds super time consuming, email marketing is your best bet for letting them get to know you.
Now, you may be saying, “But Channing, I’ve tried it and no one opens my emails.”
To which I will ask you this:
Is it really the case that NO ONE is opening your emails?
– OR –
Is it possible you just don’t know what is considered the average open rate and click through rate for emails these days?
I am willing to bet money it’s the latter and that can be fixed in a matter of seconds. (On the chance it’s the former, I encourage you to check out these 9 tips for writing stellar email subject lines.)
You do not need a 100% open rate to be successful
The chart below outlines the average open rates and click through rates for email marketing broken down by industry. (Teaser: “Success” in email marketing is a lower number than you think.)
Stress-Free Email Marketing
Now having read the actual reality of how email performance is across industries, and knowing it STILL CONVERTS more than any other marketing channel, how do you feel about your email marketing success? As with most things in life, and business, your level of success and satisfaction all comes down to managing expectations whether they’re clients or our own.
If your open rate is anywhere above the 20% mark, pat yourself on the back and move on. There are many ways to increase open rates, should you want/need to including:
- improved subject lines
- testing design formats
- segmenting your list for targeted promotions
- reengagement campaigns
And more! What’s your biggest hangup with email marketing? Drop me an email to let me know and I’ll make sure to provide a targeted lesson to help you out.
